We will explore why solvent extraction is increasingly coming under pressure today, whether due to solvent residues in oils and meals, safety risks, emissions, or the need for subsequent refining. At the same time, we will present the available mechanical processing alternatives, ranging from two-stage pressing and pressing with extrusion to cold-hot pressing and pre-pressing techniques designed to reduce residual oil content.
We will also examine the economic efficiency limits of individual solutions and discuss how the overall processing economics change when conventional meal is replaced by press cake with its naturally retained residual oil content.
